The Oregon Shooting
Published: Thu, 10/01/15
Another school shooting with mass casualties,
this time in Oregon.
To a certain extent, it took me back to Sandy Hook
three years ago. That was close enough to home
to have a terrible emotional impact.
The quickest and easiest reaction is to think the
world is going to hell, and there's nothing we
can do to stop it.
But that's not true. Not at all.
It's not that we have become more violent as
a society. If anything, crime as a whole continues
to decline.
There are always going to be fringe elements and
sick people who respond to tragedies like this by
being a copycat.
(Recommended reading on this is
"The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell.)
And if you stop and look at things differently
for a minute, it becomes easy to see how good
ideas spread so rapidly and do so much good,
so quickly.
Think of the Ice Bucket Challenge to help
research for A.LS. Or the thousands of worthy
people who have had money they need because
of the crowd sourcing we can now do online.
There is no way to eliminate violence totally.
We're human beings, and it will likely always
be an instinct some of us won't be able to suppress.
But the quickest and best way to eliminate this kind
of violence from being commonplace is to build a wall
of love and positive energy and commitment around you
and the people you interact with on a daily basis.

Listen to the radio to get the information you need...
and nothing more.
Stop feeding the media beast that thrives on this and
radicalizes the vulnerable among us.
Send love and healing to the people affected,
and into your own world.
Outrage brings more outrage.
Peace in your immediate world brings peace
to the larger world…step by step.
Much Love,
Larry
