The Long Game

Many people come out of the gate BIG in
whatever it is they're doing, weight loss,
business, career, relationships…
They're following a plan that works, and
they're doing great. The results are starting
to show up.
Check back 90 days later, and damn few of
them are still in the game.
They've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
What's up with that?
The quick answer: They didn't have a long game.
Most of us are in love with the fantasy of the results.
But when we get close to the results itself, we get
caught because our self-image won't let us go
any further.
That's not how it comes out. Instead, we worry our
friends may stop liking us.
Or we worry about taking on more responsibility
than we are willing to accept long-term.
A few people quit what they're doing outright.
But more drop off little by little. They follow the
plan 80% instead of 100.
They cheat a little. They take a few days off.
Or they find someone else's plan and jump on
that, abandoning all the momentum they had
with the first plan.
Lots of short games. No long game.
Whatever you're going into, start by planning on
the long game. Yes, make sure you have enough
time, cash, support, and other resources to sustain
what you're doing.
Even more important work on YOU the entire time.
If you have a good plan and work it, it's only a matter
of time before the results show up.
You don't have to sabotage those results because
you didn't see yourself holding onto that kind of
success long term.
It doesn't have to be a fantasy.
You can let go of what made you want to change
in the first place and hang onto a new reality.
Be scared. It's OK.
Be bold.
Because no matter how many short games you've
played, your long game of success is waiting for you.
