You're Allowed To Be Terrible
Published: Sun, 03/20/16
(And no, it's not really a secret.)
Whatever you're good at, you used
to suck at.
Everything. Cooking, writing, making
videos.
Parenting.
Walking.
Hitting a golf ball.
You were born clueless and helpless.
Then your inner drive to learn stuff kicked in.
Your brain developed.
But you still didn't know how to do stuff.
You fell while walking to your parents.
You fell off the bicycle.
You mispronounced words.
You flubbed inviting people to look
at the products from your new company.
You didn't configure your new website correctly.
You made your first video and it was a horror show.
Ummm...that's everyone.
I just spent two hours in Frustration Central working
on figuring out a new website application.
I felt stupid, incompetent and embarrassed...
even though no one was around to watch me struggle.
Guess what?
A few days from now I'll be hitting it like an old pro.
You are not your failure.
You are your effort.
And your learning.
And your frustration, and sense of humor.
And you damn well will be your success,
when you achieve it!
It's OK to be terrible.
It's the path towards getting better.
Then good.
And someday, maybe great.
Hang in there.
You're worth it.
With Much Respect,
Larry
