when I first heard what happened....
When you are so sure you own the truth with a capital T...
or you are so disenfranchised, disempowered and
dehumanized...and you are encouraged to find an "other"
to rail against, this is what happens.
I am outraged, even as I know the only reasonable answer
is compassion and commitment to create my world around
me with respect and love for all, starting with myself.
Sending love to all my brothers and sisters...gay, straight, black,
white, rich, poor, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, atheist, agnostic, etc.
Whether you like it or not, we're all in this together.
Now the politicians, the media, the churches,
the companies and corporations, the non-profits...
they're all gonna do what they're gonna do.
Some of it will be well thought out, smart, cautious,
common sense stuff.
Some of it will be fear-based, angry, hateful stuff that
brings out the worst in us.
It doesn't matter. Not nearly as much as you'd think it does.
Because just like your business, your career, your relationships,
anything else that's important to you, the only thing that
matters at the end of the day is how YOU interact with the world.
Your grace. Your commitment. Your patience.
Your willingness to stand up for what's important.
Your skills at connecting with another...so that you influence
people toward something good. So that you help someone
to feel important enough to act out of hate, or desperation.
You can rail against the system. You can argue for stricter
gun control, or better enforcement of immigration laws,
or anything you find important.
And you should. It's your duty as a citizen.
Your duty as a human being is to live what's important
to you, and let that commitment create a culture you
can be proud of...and attracts others.
