Freedom From Fear

Published: Fri, 07/15/16

Dear Friends,

My wife and I are in Las Vegas, celebrating our 26th
wedding anniversary. It was never lost on us that
it falls on Bastille Day, which is the start of the French
Revolution.

Freedom.

And it really has been a magnificent day. Great meals,
hiking at Red Rock Canyon. The closeness one feels
with a best friend and soul mate.

It's hard to write about that now.

I was going to talk about it, and send out a blog post
from the past about celebrating your freedom, and
never taking it for granted.

That was before yet another hateful act snuffed out the
lives of people celebrating in France.

One more time, the impulses of cowardice, arrogance
and fear manifested themselves in unspeakable violence.
It wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last.

I won't pretend to know what goes on in the mind and
heart of someone who commits that kind of crime.

And I won't pretend to know what it's like to live in that
kind of fear day in and day out, or to have that kind of
tragedy shatter your life.

Here's what I do know...

To be free from fear, you have to move in courage.

You have to look your fear in the eye and know you
are stronger than it is.

So that even though it might win temporarily, it will
eventually be overwhelmed by optimism, love, and
the strength of commitment.

Yes, easy words from someone who isn't experiencing it.

But I have felt the fear of stepping into a place I didn't
feel worthy of, without skills or self confidence.

And in many ways, I moved past it, around it, through it.

On Saturday, a group of brave souls will join us for the Suite
Retreat Mastermind and discover life force in them that will
give them freedom from fear.

There are always new challenges. Some are hard...really hard.

But if you are sitting around, worrying about what might
happen, paralyzed by your own doubts, there is no force
that will save you.

And if you see yourself as worthy and deserving of success,
no matter how badly you screwed up in the past, there is no
force that can stop you.

You'll learn what you need to learn. You'll overcome what you
need to overcome.

In my heart, I know terror won't be stopped by armies,
or governments.

It will suffocate when individuals find the courage to demand
more. When the cowardice of hate is replaced by commitment,
compassion and respect...for self and others.

And mass movements reflect that energy, and shame those
who rely on terror to impose their will.

Someone who is getting their own house in order has no time
to blame others.

Do your best. Become your best.

See the best in others.

Individual by individual, that is how we will hit critical mass.

Sending love and strength to the people of Nice, France.
