Your History

I'm excited.

In a few hours my wife, one of my daughters
and I are going to pile in the car and head into
New York City.

They're going to see a Broadway show, which
is precisely what they want to do.

I'm going to do exactly what I want, which is
to park the car, take the subway to Canal Street,
walk through Chinatown and the financial district...

and cross it.

The Brooklyn Bridge.

It's a majestic span. And the views of the skyline
are amazing, even the Brooklyn side.

But it's more than that.

History.

Seeing and feeling the hopes and desires that went
into building this amazing piece of architecture.
The genius of it.

You can feel the energy of the thousands of workers
who came from all over the world to design and build it.

You hear it in the language of of the people crossing
it with you. You'll hear more Italian and Chinese than you
will English.

You see it in the Statue of Liberty off in the distance.

History.

And present. Now.

You have a history.

Some you're embarrassed about.

Some you're proud of.

A lot more is just mundane everyday things you used
to build your life.

There's genius in it, right alongside the poor choices
and regrets.

And it got you to this place today.

And set it aside.

Because the present is where all your power is.

Honor it.  All of it.

Then get up and out.

Look with open eyes at what you've created.

Then get busy creating the next part.

Your genius is calling.

Your Friend,
Larry
