Afraid Of School?

Kids everywhere have just gone back to school,
or are about to go back. For many, today is their
first day back from summer vacation.
Most are good with the idea.
Some are scared to death.
I know...this is 24 years of public education talking!
(And so you know, this note is going to be about you,
your learning, your achievement, your success.)
The ones who hate school make a connection
between it and bad feeling stuff.
Getting picked on by the other kids.
Not understanding what's going on.
Feeling dumb.
Being picked on by the teacher.
And the list goes on.
I get it.
Only problem with that is, school is where
you LEARN STUFF.
Yes, you can learn it in other places.
But the whole idea of school is that you
learn the important stuff...the stuff you need
to know in order to succeed.
And you're taught by people who know what
they're doing, and how to to explain things.
And they check to make sure you understand it.
A good school does all those things.
And if you didn't have a good school, or if you
weren't ready to learn while you were in it...
You don't want to go back. Ever.
