Mean People

At least I think she was mean.
I suppose she doesn't think she was mean.
She was sure angry!
I posted the following on my Facebook wall...
You can define me by my career, my job,
my relationships, my mistakes, my successes,
my fears, my value to you...
As soon as I am six feet under and no longer
capable of change.
No, I take that back. Even then, my legacy will
still be impacting lives. So will yours.

She was responding to something deeply personal
I put on my wall. Clearly, she didn't like it.
Part of me wished I had saved it (before deleting the
comment and blocking her ass).
The bigger part of me is glad I didn't.
A big part of what keeps us from taking chances,
maybe the biggest part, is being afraid of how others
will respond.
I did something, and this person responded...angrily.
Lots of other people gave support.
And a few people gave some thoughtful, well meaning
constructive criticism.
Doesn't matter.
And by the way, there was another thread going online
in reaction to my post. Almost everyone had a different
and very negative reaction to what I'd said.
If you wait around the live your life so the
"mean people" don't get offended, you'll never
do anything.
Sure, you'll carve out a living.
You'll stay in the box.
You'll wait for permission to do the things that
make you feel alive.
Don't blame the mean people, or anyone else.
By their lights, they aren't being mean.
Decide your life is worth giving it your all.
Decide you are worth learning new skills, letting
go of worry, finding your place in the sun.
Decide to RELEASE THE HOUNDS.
I got your back, Dude!
