Your New Career

Published: Sun, 11/26/17

Happy Sunday!

I used to think there was no way you could be someone
who worked as a counselor and be an entrepreneur
at the same time.

I used to think it was a conflict of interest to try and
help people, and also try and sell them something.

Of course that's silly on many different levels.

Every counselor, social worker, psychologist who
works in private practice has to let people know they're
in business. They have to sell their ability to help others.

And even the ones who work for an agency, or a hospital
or a school...they sometimes have to go out and represent
who they work for. Otherwise they lose out on clients,
and they place their job in danger.

But more important than that, is this...

Anyone who markets something and can still look
at themselves in the mirror has to believe in what
they're marketing.

You have to believe what you're selling is good
for the people you're selling it to.

Otherwise, whatever money you make might pay
your bills, and it might get you cool toys and vacations.

But it won't give you any peace or satisfaction.

And if you have something that's good for people,
why wouldn't you want to offer it to them?

And why wouldn't you want to be the one making
the money
, instead of someone else?

Once I figured that out, marketing became a lot
easier...and more fun.

I kept my counseling career, but began another career
at the same time.

And in some ways it turned out my marketing career
helped people more than my counseling career.

Whatever you're doing: teaching, manufacturing, truck
driving, military, health care, anything...

You can always add on another career.

You can go slow, with a plan to build it out over time.

You can make a drastic change in your life, if that's
where you are.

And of course you can go somewhere in between.

But you don't have to be embarrassed about being
a marketer.

Just be a good one.

Learn the skills.

Get the right mindset.

Be OK with making mistakes.

Stop worrying about what other people think.

Have fun with it.

And use your new career to help people with
your product or service. And be OK with making
money at the same time.

Peace Out
Larry

P.S.: One of the folks who has joined me in my
new project is a surgeon. He has his reasons for
wanting another career.

And in many ways the work he's doing in this career
is just as important as saving lives as a doctor.

That's something to be proud of, not ashamed of.

If you're looking for a way to do good and make
money a new career - even if you still want to hang
onto your old one - please take a look at what we're
doing
. I'm proud of it and excited. I think you will be too.

P.S.S.: Did you see yesterday's note about letting go
of pain? I put it up on the No More Holding Back blog.
Definitely worth a read!
