I Don't Want You To Like Me

Published: Sun, 02/11/18

Of course that's not true. I want to be liked,
same as everyone else out there.

But as someone in the counseling and coaching
profession, and as what I'd like to think is a fairly
emotionally mature adult, my sense of self isn't
based on whether or not I am liked...or how that
translates into "Likes" and comments, etc.

I do want those so I can share my message
more effectively.

What I DO want is for people to come to me because
they see me as a way to solve their problems.

To let go of the pain, frustration and anxiety they have.
Whether it's someone looking for a marketing solution,
or a high school family looking to find a better path to
a great future, or even a branch of the Armed Forces
trying to make allies out of public schools instead of enemies...

It's not about me. It's about them.

If you're looking for a coach, and they make it too much
about them, it's a guarantee it'll continue to be about them
down the road.

If they make it about you and solving your problems
from the get go - if they listen and consult with respect,
you're onto someone good.

Liking is fine. But look for professionalism.

Have a great Sunday,
Larry
