Something Beautiful Just Happened...

Published: Tue, 07/17/12

Hi...it's me.  Just wanted to take a moment
to tell you about something really cool
that happened a few minutes ago.

I was finishing up some errands in a local
shopping center and heading home.

As I was about to make a right turn,
an elderly gentleman walked in front of my car.

And when I say elderly, I'm talking probably
upper 80's or early 90's. He was elderly.

He was also wearing the exact same outfit
as a typical Connecticut teenager would wear...
Red Sox t shirt (with Jacoby Ellsbury's last name
and number on the back) and Red Sox cap.
Denim shorts.

He was also moving very very very slowly.
I'm talking VERY.

But he was moving.

In another less informed part of my life I would
have been impatient. Probably wouldn't have
yelled or beeped at him, but I would have
let the emotion of impatience rule me.

Today I got a chance to look at this man with different
eyes and a clearer heart.

I saw someone who got up in the morning, did his
own driving, did his own shopping, had enough
enthusiasm to put on the gear of his favorite team
(even if it wasn't the New York Mets).

I saw someone who seemed to have found dignity
in his life...who didn't feel the need to try and rush
along. He knew who he was, and had the quiet
authority to allow people to wait for him.

And in the moment of watching him make his trek
across the parking lot, I had an immense appreciation
of him, and truthfully, of myself.

Let me tell you....getting to the point where you can
stand in a moment of appreciation, to take people where
they are and not where you want them to be to serve
your agenda...very liberating.

I saw a role model of who I'd like to become in my later
years...again, swapping out the Red Sox gear for Mets.

Do yourself a favor...

Take a moment today and just empty your thoughts
and emotions of worry, or haste or anxiety.

Find someone or something to focus on that helps
you find the inner core of love we can all access whenever
we're ready for it.

I suggest you do that everyday, but if you want to start
with today...that's pretty cool!

Much Love,
Larry
